What does Ranger offer as a secondary profession
Ranger is kind of needy in terms of a seccondary. Perhaps they need to change the skills so they are more compatible with other classes.
Wilderness:
About 1/5 are bow only. Traps are more effective with Expertise (maybe good for elementalist?
A bunch of nature rituals that may/may not help.
*Serpents Quickness for casters.
*Troll Unguent for degen
Beast Mastery:
Pet is useless still, since pet attacks need to have own skill slots and need high Beast Mastery to be actually effective.
Other than pets there is the nature rituals, which need high beast mastery so they don't die so quickly.
*Primal echoes for an antiwarrior build? <-- not as good as ignorance since it affects everyone
Marksmanship:
Since you need 2 hands, kills the prospect of using a focus. Most skilsl require a bow.
Other:
Antidote Signet for blind/poison/disease

Primal Echoes to stop Warriors using Healing Signet is just silly.
Aside from a few things, /Ranger is pretty lackluster due to the non-Expertise costs of many of the skills, using pets being with big drawbacks, and that a whole line requires a bow and the corresponding attribute levels.
The truly useful secondary classes are /Necro, /Monk, and /Mesmer. The others are less useful but still have a few roles. /Ranger just happens to be the least useful of all.

Oh, I don't know if /Ranger is the most useless...
I had a Me/W, boy was that a waste!
Ranger secondary can do traps well, and troll unguent is one of the best self healing skills in the game. Winter is very useful at the end of the game, and all those I listed are Wilderness skills.
I made an E/R just so I could have a pet, but later on I changed to Wilderness and it served me well. I'm an E/Mo now so that I can solo, but Ranger wasn't too bad a secondary for me.

Melandru's Resilence, Storm Chaser, and a few spirits. Those are the only things I can see myself using a /R for after the update.

because of expertise, r/* and */r tend to either use ranger for almost all their skills or only for one or two. A lot of the ranger skills are only worth it when you have high expertise, and after getting expertise, marks, and wildy survival, there really isn't any room for a fourth att, leaving you with skills you can use unlinked or almost unlinked, like frenzy. On the other hand, ranger secondaries tend to use the /R for things like spirits or incendiary arrows + fragility mes/ranger
warrior secondary is a lot of the same thing... you see mo/wars with bonnetti's defense, illusionary weaponry me/war, and maybe healsig on an order or BiP necro or a ranger/war with frenzy.

Yeh, which means your secondary is less useful.

See Iraqalypse's post.
All ranger skills are designed to operate under ridiculous amounts of expertise cost reductions, making them unreasonable even on an elementalist with high energy storage.
Combine that with roughly 1/3 of the skills linked to a bow and a bunch of useful ones tied to expertise and you get a bad secondary for most professions.
If you can grab a stance or a ritual from Wilderness Survival that you like, take it and run. You could probably have some fun as a /R beastmaster as well if you wanted. But a build that relies heavily on Ranger as it's secondary? Expertise precludes that.

How about serpents quickness and a few very nice defensive stances?
Throw dirt + Whirling defense can be the bane of many a warrior.

I'm so used to ranger primary I forgot that little tidbit...
OK... Apply poison for the melee types, serps quickness and troll unguent... these aren't bad. Seen warriors use apply poison to decent effect.

I unlocked Ranger for my Mesmer... came up with a SICK PvE build... fast-casting trapper. It rocks in random arenas, too.
W/R is also a good runner.

Now we're getting somewhere.
But do tell, how is W/R a good runner. I don't seem to think so. (Unless you mean storm chaser+sprint)

Fast casting should only affect spells... right?
Have you actually tested this and seen traps go down less than 2 seconds?
